About the Seminar

Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine of India is recognized for its safe medicine which is effective in eliminating various diseases without side effects. As every system needs to be changed and up graded according to the need of time, there is necessity of collaboration of Ayurveda with other fields in order to improve and establish the quality of Ayurvedic drugs. Researchers at national as well as international levels are being conducted to validate the safety and efficacy of Ayurveda drugs. Thus, to meet the future challenges the need of the hour is to incorporate modern tools, technologies and modern procedures in development of Ayurveda.

The present initiative is to provide a platform for scholars from different parts of the country to deliberate on recent advances and challenges in Ayurveda.

This National Seminar on Recent Advances and Future Challenges in Ayurveda also mark the 150 birth anniversary of Pt. Madan Mohan Malviyaji, the founder of the Banaras Hindu University, who always believed in traditional system of medicine.

Previous Initiative

The National Seminar on “Emerging Trends in Education and Research in Ayurveda organized at R.G.S.C. last year was a greatly appreciated for providing a platform for various researchers across the country to discuss the need as well as possibilities in Ayurveda. This conclave was attended by about 400 researchers from various fields. The proceedings of the National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Education and Research in Ayurveda, NSETERA – 2011 was also published by M/s. Ganga Kaveri Publishing House with ISBN 81-85694-65-6.

About the University and Education & Research on Ayurveda :

Banaras Hindu University founded by Pt. Madan Mohan Malviyaji in 1916, is one of the most Prestigious central Universities in the country. The University has two campuses – main campus at Varanasi and Rajiv Gandhi south Campus at Barkachha, Mirzapur with 4 institutes, 16 Faculties, 140 departments, 4 advanced centers and 4 inter disciplinary schools. Malviaji himself was believer of traditional system of medicine and in the year 1922 Ayurveda established as a unit in Faculty of Oriental Learning and Theology. In 1927 AMS Degree Course was started under Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (Ayurveda). In 1963, a Post Graduate Institute of Indian Medicine was established.

In 1971, College of Medical Sciences (which was established in 1960) was merged with Post Graduate Institutes of Indian Medicines and Institute of Medical Sciences came in to existence with joint Faculty. In 1978, the joint Faculty was divided in to Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Indian Medicines, which later was renamed as Faculty of Ayurveda in the year 1985. In 1999, undergraduate course has been restarted as B.A.M.S. Degree. The B.Pharm. (AY) course was started in the year 2006-2007 at the R.G.S.C. Campus under Faculty of Ayurveda.
