Introduction

In 1978, Rasa Shastra Department was established as a stauary department in Faculty of Ayurveda. Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University from the date of its inception this department mainly deals with

• Quality control of ayurvedic formulations
• Standardardization of Ayurvedic formulations.
• Safety and efficacy of ayurvedic formulations.
• To esatablish Standard Operative Procedure (SOP) for herbal and Herbo-mineral formulations under Good Manufacuring practices (GMP) norms.

This department is leading in the various studies related to Ayurvedic formulations with collaborations of other Departments, Faculties, and Institutes of Banaras Hindu Universityfor e.g. Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Metallury, Material Sciences, Physics, Chemical Engineering & Pharmaceutics and all other departments of Faculty of Ayurveda in complaince of global requirement regarding Ayurvedic forulations which are under mentioned.
